In order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) website accessibility guidelines and recent staff survey, BISD elected to transition all teacher websites Overview pages to a more simplified “business card” model as follows:

Please note that your Overview page must be updated to include a recent professional appearing photo, name, title, email, phone, conference time, class schedule and tutorial times for 2018-19. Campus webmasters will be working with the district webmaster to ensure that the new teacher Overview pages will be activated by the start of 2018-19 school year.

Resources like PDFs, videos, links, etc. that were previously on any Schoolwires site should be migrated onto a secure platform such as Canvas, Google Classroom, Google Docs, REMIND or similar app and/or a weekly email newsletter. This will alleviate the District’s liability of non-ADA compliant content uploaded onto the websites viewable by the public.

Teachers may begin transitioning content off Schoolwires websites now, with all content moved by July 31. This transition will be a team effort to ensure that all staff comply with ADA online content guidelines. Once finished moving all your content, you will need to notify Michelle DoPorto, District Webmaster, by completing the following Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/jjtFmK6p2DQiQ8yF2

Teachers who would like to discuss content migration options may contact any of the following individuals:

  • Digital Learning Specialists
  • Campus Webmasters
  • District Webmaster

The Digital Learning Department will also schedule open lab and design times throughout the summer to provide assistance.

Additional training information will be provided for all BISD staff covering ADA web requirements and how to properly prepare content in MS Office Suite, PDFs, YouTube videos, etc.

Birdville ISD is committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities by ensuring equal access to online content. The District will continue its efforts to keep our families connected to learning resources outside the classroom, as well as using those resources to ensure parent engagement in their student’s academic success.
