The C: drive is a hard disk drive located inside the computer and is where the Microsoft Operating System (Windows 7) and Microsoft Office are stored. The C: drive, along with all other drives, can be seen and accessed via “Computer” on the desktop. Using the U: drive for saving data is preferred for reasons mentioned in the U: drive section below.
D: & E: Drives
The D: drive is an Optical Drive otherwise known as a BD-RE, DVD RW or CD-ROM Drive. The D: drive allows users to play and/or write files to DVD media. However, in some cases, the D: drive can be a second hard drive making the Optical Drive the E: drive.
U: Drive
The U: drive is a network drive where users save data. The U: drive is not a physical drive but a network location that is linked to a server housed at the BISD Network Operation Center and backed-up weekly. The U: drive is unique to each individual user’s login and cannot be accessed by other users. BISD highly encourages all users to store their data on the U: drive for this reason.
