What is a Canvas Observer Account?

Canvas Parent Observer Accounts allow parents and guardians to view published canvas courses for their children.  Observers can view assignments, due dates, missing work, course announcements, and send/receive inbox messages with teachers. Observers cannot submit assignments or view other students enrolled in the course.  Courses that have not been published by the teacher are not accessible to students or observers.

How do I get a Canvas Observer Account?

All parents and guardians registered to a student in Focus will automatically be connected to an observer account in Canvas.  If you previously created an observer account, your password will be reset.

How do I access my Canvas Observer Account?

Laptop / Computer Instructions

Step 1, visit the BISD Canvas Parent Login Page and click “Forgot my Password”.

Step 2: Enter the email address used when registering your child in Focus.

Step 3: You will receive an email from Birdville School District ([email protected]) with a temporary password.  

Step 4: Return to the BISD Canvas Parent Login Page and login using the temporary password.  You will be required to create a new password.

Step 5: Review the Instructor Observer Account instructions for help navigating in Canvas.

Mobile Instructions

Step 1: Search and install the Canvas Parent app in the App or Play Store

Step 2: Open the app and tap Find School

Step 3: Search and tap “Birdville ISD - Parents” 

Step 4: Tap “Forgot Password”

Step 5: Enter the email address used when registering your child in Focus.

Step 6: You will receive an email from Birdville School District ([email protected]) with a temporary password.  

Step 7: Return to the login screen and enter your email address and temporary password.  You will be asked to change your password the first time you login.

Step 8: Review the Instructure Observer Guide for help navigating in Canvas.
